It is also suitable for dry and cold weather with a temperature of about 15-30 degrees Celsius in the growing season and a temperature of about 10-35 degrees Celsius in the harvest season.
Choosing the right saffron onion
The saffron bulb is an important part of the saffron flower, which is placed in the soil and flowers next year.
Saffron onion should have the right size, shape, color and weight.
In general, larger (over 9 grams), round, white and heavier bulbs (more than 10% moisture) are better for growing saffron.
Carrying out agricultural operations
Agricultural operations include plowing, fertilizing, planting, watering, weeding, harvesting and keeping onions.
To perform this operation, you must pay attention to the following:
Plowing the saffron field
Plowing should be done in spring or summer. The soil should be plowed to a depth of 25-30 cm and clay and heavy soils should be mixed with organic matter.
Fertilization should be done in two stages.
The first stage during plowing and the second stage during planting.
The desired fertilizer must contain nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and other essential elements.
Normally, chemical fertilizer and animal manure (cow, sheep or chicken) are used.
Saffron onion planting should be done in autumn (November or December).
Onions should be placed 10-15 cm apart and 10-15 cm deep in the soil.
After planting, press the soil carefully and level the surface of the soil.
Irrigation of saffron
Irrigation should be limited and according to the type of soil and weather conditions.
Normally, two to three irrigations in the growing season and four to five irrigations in the harvest season are sufficient.
Watering should be strip, drip or surface.
Weeding should be done manually or mechanically during the growing season and before the flowers bloom.
Chemical herbicides should not be used.
Saffron must be harvested in autumn (November or December) at the same time as the flowers bloom.
